The Control Board for Cricket in India (BCCI) will pay a special tribute to the Indian Armed Forces during the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Increased border tension led a week -long suspension of IPL 2025. However, the tournament resumed after a ceasefire, and the BCCI has expressed praise for the role of the armed forces in defense of the nation. The special gesture beyond the summit was confirmed by BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Sasia said in an interaction in Sportstar, “The board salutes the bravery, courage and selfless service of our armed forces, whose operations protect and motivate the nation under the operation vermilion. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces.”
Ever since IPL 2025 resumed on 17 May, BCCI has paid tributes at several places. Players have been seen singing the national anthem before the matches, “thanks to the stadium screen with messages such as” thanks, armed forces “.
“While cricket remains a national passion, there is nothing more than the nation and its sovereignty, integrity and security of our country,” Saikia said.
This is not the first time the BCCI has honored the armed forces during the IPL. In 2019, there was a military band at the opening ceremony in Chennai, and the board pledged 20 million for the welfare of the armed forces after the Pulwama attack, where 44 CRPF personnel were martyred.
The final which was originally scheduled to be held in Kolkata on 25 May, but was taken to Ahmedabad due to weather concerns. Now, the playoffs are scheduled to begin on 29 May, and are in controversy with top teams such as Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.
