He accepted after the CSK's victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 25 May. The former Indian captain commented that if cricketers retired due to performance alone and most would retire on 22. He said that he has a luxury of time to take a decision regarding his retirement.

“It's good. I wouldn't say it was houseful today. We did not have a good season, it was one of those correct performances. We have not caught very well, but the catching was good today. It depends. It depends. I have 4-5 months. It is 4-5 months. It is 4-5 months to decide that there is no need to fit the body.

“I am not saying that I am doing, I am not saying that I am not coming back. I have a luxury of time. Think about it and then decide. When we started the season, four games were in Chennai. We decided to bat in the second place, but I felt that the wicket was good to bat in the first innings. We were ready to like them very much.
