Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 India and Pakistan have been suspended for a week amidst cross -border tension. The decision was taken on Friday, 9 May, leaving due to a power outage due to a significant technical failure in the area after less than 24 hours after the confrontation between Punjab Kings (PBK) and Delhi Capital (DC), resulting in closure of one of the light towers.
IPL President Arun Dhumal said that the situation between India and Pakistan will be assessed in the coming days, and one decision on the future of the tournament will be taken later. Fans are speculating that IPL can go out of India, 16 games are yet to be played in the 18th edition.
Amidst speculation, a report by the popular English magazine The Cricketer mentions that England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) offered BCCI to host the remaining 16 games in IPL 2025 in the United Kingdom.
Interestingly, former England captain Michael Vaughan swam the same idea on his 'X' handle. “I wonder if it is possible to eliminate the IPL in the UK .. We have all the places, and Indian players can then stay for the test series. Just an idea?” He has written.
It is interesting to note that IPL has been played in only two countries besides India. The 2009 version of the Cash-Rich League was held in South Africa, colliding with the multi-step 2009 Indian general elections. The UAE is another nation that has hosted IPL Games over the years due to reasons like elections and Covid -19 epidemic.
While Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capital Clash was released, Lucknow Super Veteran vs Royal Challengers Bangalore encounter, held on Friday, has not faced equal fate. The 10-Team tournament will resume, both these teams will close the horns.
