18th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) In the light of increasing tension between India and Pakistan, Friday, May 9 was suspended for a week. After a confrontation between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capital on Thursday, the decision was stopped due to a significant technical failure.
IPL President Arun Dhumal said that it was not very understandable to continue with the tournament. He also revealed that complete suspension of the remaining season was being considered.
Arun Dhumal told CNN-NEWS18, “Now, given the situation, we thought it appropriate that the tournament was running for a while, and as the situation comes in the coming days, a call will be taken accordingly.”
“We were considering (full suspension) and we were discussing with all the stakeholders and were considered suitable for suspending a week, assessing the situation and then a final call,” he said, “he said.
Dhumal said that the situation would be monitored in the coming days, and a final decision to resume the league will be taken after discussion with all stakeholders.
“Look by now, as you know, the whole country focuses on winning this war and we want to show our solidarity with our armed forces and our government. So it is still focused on, we are not considering everything else now. So, we will review the situation and accordingly, accordingly, after discussing with all the stakeholders, do a call after discussing with all the stakeholders,” he said.
After the conflict between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capital, only 16 matches have been left in IPL 2025. This includes 12 league matches, qualifiers 1 and 2, eliminators and finals. Gujarat Titans are placed on top of the numeral table, while Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings have already been abolished. On Friday, Lucknow Super Veteran and Royal Challengers Bangalore were set to close the horns. However, the match has been postponed for now.
