Mumbai Indians Star Batter Suryakumar Yadav The memory went down from the lane and recalled a memorable match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2020. The legendary batsman opened the emotional turmoil after being snubbed for India's tour to Australia, and how he absorbed that pain in a match winning knock.
Yadav revealed that non-selection gave him a tough competition, especially since he was in sublime during the domestic season and IPL. The omission left them shocked and emotional, focusing on the Covid-19 break on their fitness and mental conditioning.
“It was an emotional knock because a few days ago, the team was announced for the tour of Australia. I was building for it for the last few years – my home season and IPL were really running well. I had prepared myself well for this season, even taking time during Kovid brake to work on my body and mental health.
Despite the shock, he produced an impressive innings when Mumbai needed him the most. Chasing a target of 165 against RCB, the right -handed batsman went to number three and played one of the most memorable knock of his career, scoring an unbeaten 79 off just 43 balls, broke 10 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 183.72.
His approach ensured that the side crossed the finish line with five balls and five wickets. In the match, there was a famous exchange between Yadav and Virat Kohli. While both did not speak after the matches, Yadav revealed that Kohli later gave him the number 3 slot in the T20I side after the start of his India.
“All the people around me, including other countries, I thought I was flying to Australia. But when I was not selected, it gave me a tough competition. I could not understand what went wrong. For the next 2-3 days, for the next 2-3 days, I did not talk to anyone. I did not take a break and I knew that my mind was not in the right place, so I decided to rest.
Since that emotional night in Abu Dhabi, Suryakumar has become one of the best batsmen in the shortest format of the game. With over 2500 international runs, four centuries, and world number 1 T20i batsman ranking, the 33 -year -old has changed how modern T20 cricket is played. He recently scored 4000 runs in the IPL and is currently the captain of India's T20I team.
