Sunil Gavaskar questioned the game awareness of Rajasthan Royals (RR) after failing to shut down another run-chase on Thursday, 24 April. The M Chinnaswamy Stadium required just 18 runs in the last two overs with five wickets against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which fell by 11 runs.
While Josh Hazelwood, with an unprecedented torture, winning just one run and two wickets, Rajasthan batsmen did not show enthusiasm and confidence to cross the line. Chasing the target of 206 runs, the Ryan Parag-LED side was limited to 194/9.
Gavaskar was surprised to see the Royals batsmen under pressure, even calm and composed by Rahul Dravid, who is known for his broad strategies, as his head coach.
“With Rajasthan Royals, I am actually talking about the previous matches where I was not on the ground, I saw them. So, you are not always able to realize what is really happening. But here, here, I was on the ground, and you could really see the kind of cricket that was speaking as a coach.
He said, “Where is the idea process? You cannot always expect inexperienced players to be right, but still … it is just a different kind of cricket. Dravid was always so accurate in his thinking, and I felt that such an approach must have been in some batsmen of Rajasthan,” he said.
Dravid directed India to the T20 World Cup title in June 2024, which was his last work as the men's head coach in Blue. After finishing his term with the Indian team, he re -joined the Royals. However, his first season in the franchise has not been memorable because Royals are all, but out of the playoff race. He has only two wins out of nine matches, faced his ninth defeat of the season on Thursday.
