Punjab Kings (PBK) hosted Chennai Super Kings (Chennai Super Kings) On Tuesday, April 8, in Malanpur in the match 22 of IPL 2025. The domestic team won the match by 18 runs, but the game promised to be very close on one platform, suggesting margin.
An interesting incident occurred during CSK's 220 -run chase. Kiwi and CSK opener Devon Conway was playing a solid innings, anchor at one end and providing necessary boosts to the run rate when possible. The required run rate was very high in the entire innings and with the arrival of MS Dhoni, it seemed that if he was leaving it could come down significantly. He, in fact, was leaving and it appears that he and the Conway would take the team on the last ball until they leave.
Conway was scoring 69 runs in 49 balls, when CSK management decided to retire him in 17.5 overs, and brought him to Ravindra Jadeja. The decision surprised many fans and audiences who expressed surprise on social media. The fans began to guess that the team probably wanted fresh legs and hands in the middle for the last two overs and so decided to bring Conway back into the dugout.
Jadeja, however, could not do much as he ended at 9 runs off 5 balls. CSK did a lot on his plate and lost his fourth match of the season out of five.

After the match, CSK captain Ruturaj Gikwad highlighted why Conway was retired.
“Devon is more than a timer of a ball. The top of the order is very useful. Jaddu, his role is completely different, you know that the batsman is struggling. We were waiting for him and then when we thought it was necessary, he changed.”
IPL 2025 has seen two players retired so far. Tilak Verma was the first against Lucknow super veterans. Due to his retirement, various opinions developed and the same is expected from Conway.
