Kolkata Metro provides special services for IPL 2025 opener


Kolkata Metro has announced special services on blue line and Green Line -2 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 At the Eden Gardens among the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, March 22. This arrangement has been made to provide comfortable transport for fans participating in the game.

The decision to operate the extended metro services came after KKR requested by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Given the number of spectators expected at the Eden Gardens, the authorities have taken strict measures to prevent congestion and provide smooth transport options for fans late night.

Special metro services will be available from Esplaynade station on both blue line and Green Line -2, which will cover important routes to accommodate fans returning home from the stadium. Booking counter smart cards, tokens and paper-based QR tickets at old asplades and new aspladed metro stations will be open during this period for the sale of tickets. However, in addition to regular fare, the overload of INR 10 per ticket will be applicable.

Blue Line Special Services:

South side: A special metro (SPL.1) will depart from Esplaynade in 00:15 hours and reach south in 00:48 hours.

Kavi Subi towards: Another special metro (SPL.2) will leave the asplades at 00:15 hours and will reach Kavi Subhash in 00:48 hours. Both services will stop at all stations with their respective routes.

Green Line -2 Special Service:

To Howrah Maidan: A single special train (SPL.1) will work from Esplaynade in 00:15 hours and reach Howrah ground for 00:23 hours.

KKR vs. Territory forecast for RCB

Meanwhile, the weather conditions can play a spoilSport in the season's opener. The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) has predicted thunder with thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall in the Bay of Bengal till 22 March. The Regional Meteorological Center has also issued an orange warning for parts of West Bengal from 20 March to 22 March.

Interestingly, both KKR and RCB will be led by new captains. The KKR has appointed Ajinkya Rahane as his captain with Venkatesh Iyer as his deputy, while Rajat Patidar will replace RCB FAF du Plessis. In addition, the initial match will begin with a grand ceremony, which will feature popular singer Shreya Ghoshal, rapper Karan Aujla and actress Disha Patani.
