The mythological Indian wicketkeeper-son MS Dhoni, known for being calm and composed under pressure, has moments where emotions got better than that. One such rare incident took place during the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), where Dhoni A controversial no-ball reached the ground to face the umpires on the decision. Given this incident, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper admitted that it was a mistake, but once at a time.
The incident took place on 11 April 2019 during an IPL match between CSK and Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. In the final of the match, the Chennai team required eight runs from the last three balls, when Royals bowler Ben Stokes gave a waist-high full toss. The on-field umpire initially indicated it as a no-ball, but later reversed the decision, causing confusion and anger in the CSK camp.
This led to an unexpected response to MS Dhoni, who moved on the ground with a dugout to face the umpires. As a result of his actions, Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fee for violation of the IPL code of conduct. Speaking at an event recently, Dhoni opened about the incident when host Mandira Bedi was asked if he had ever lost his cool on the field.
“A lot of time. This has happened; one of the IPL sports, this happened. I just went on the field. So it was a big mistake. Earlier, Indian Pacer Mohit Sharma also talked about the incident and explained the reason for Dhoni's anger. He revealed the atmosphere of the dressing room during the over.
