Ajinkya Rahane was appointed as the new captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, March 3, ahead of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rahane led Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, which helped the defending champion to reach the semi-finals. After Shreyas Iyer’s reign, he will see KKR to help protect his title after winning the previous season.
Last year, Rahane was Anasold in the first round of IPL 2025 mega auction. However, KKR later signed him for the base price of INR 1.5 crore during the incident. This is Renhen’s second term with KKR after being released by the franchise after a disappointing outing with the bat in IPL 2022, where he scored 133 runs in seven matches, which was at a strike rate of 103.91.
Rahane has the experience of major IPL teams like Rising Pune Super Zant and Rajasthan Royals. However, some fans are not very happy with the decision of KKR management’s decision to appoint Rahen in an important role. Rahane, 36, is a strength to recon with red-ball cricket, but in the smallest format at the end of his career, his ability is under scanner.
