The extension of Simmons was one of the various topics discussed during a Board meeting in Dhaka on Monday.
Simmons was designated in October last year with a temporary role. However, Bangladesh only won a series during his four-month career: a 3-0 victory against the western Indies of T20is. The team made an early departure from the champions trophy, after losing to India and New Zealand. Simmons, however, has won the approval of both the President of the BCB, Faruque Ahmed and the director Fahim, the two most influential figures of the current Council.
“The contracts of our main coach and assistant coach were until mid -March,” said Fahim. “We are satisfied with them, so we will contact them for renegotiation. If we cannot understand with them, we have to think of other options. We have hope to achieve a mutual understanding with them. We are thinking of expanding their contracts to the World Cup World Cup in 2027.
“We will talk formally very soon. I have seen him from closely. I am convinced that he will do well with the team of Bangladesh. I have also seen the interpersonal relationship between him and the local coaches and the players. I think he will do well here.”
The BCB is also planned to renew the contract of Senior Assistant Coach Mohammad Salahuddin, who was also designated in the short term last November. One of the reasons why the Council has been encouraged to renew both Simmons and Salahuddin is his willingness to work with each other. Espncricinfo understands that one of Simmons’s mandates was to give room for local coaches.
In addition, the Council has decided to renew the contract of Spin-Bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed, while accepting Hannan Sarkar’s resignation as a coach. Fahim said that the BCB also wants to improve the field of the senior team, next to the high performance unit. As a result, they talk to several field coaches to join the BCB.
