Kohli started the game against Pakistan less than 15,000 runs, and passed a milestone during India’s successful chase of 242, leading his team to win with an unbeaten hundred, in the 51st position in the format. He collided with a winning run and reached his centenary, a covered border with part-time spinner Khushdil Shah.
“The difference that I saw, at least from his innings against Bangladesh, till this … certainly, the pitch was a bit better, but when he was blocked against some dot balls against Bangladesh, he was then shaking again, but today we did not see any of them,” Anil Kumbal said on Espnicinfo Match. “He was just back in the way he was a bats and he says that the mind space was comfortable and of course, the challenge of playing Pakistan and the crowd, I am sure that he helps to lift his game and today we saw him in sublime.”
It currently exceeds 57 in the format, while Tendulkar (44.19) and Sangakkara (41.73) were average in the early 40s when they scored 14,000 runs. He is also the fastest 14,000 runs in terms of balls, which needs 14,984, which is much faster than both Tendulkar and Sangakkara, which required 16,292 and 17,789 respectively. Tendulkar and Sangakkara also marked their milestones with hundreds, although the two were defeated by Kohli.
“Every time Virat goes there, expectations are really high, not only for themselves, but from the team’s point of view, that he is going to achieve those runs for India, whether India is first bats or chases a goal. And fans’ expectations, you know, it is largely,” Kumble said. “He is a huge player, so obviously everything is centered around Virat.
“When this happens continuously, it starts approaching you and then you are trying hard to get out of it and are trying to be your normal batting yourself, and today I thought we have seen that we have seen in Virat. The way they had built a hundred … We have seen many times in our 51 hundreds of OD cricket.”
