Prior to winning the 2014 T20 title, Sri Lanka’s biggest outfit was certainly the largest outfit from 2007-2014, not less than the five World Cup final (three in T20 IS and three in ODIs).
The first task is to climb in the top three in the ICC rankings, with Actors ahead of the series against New Zealand. In T20Is, the team that plays first, Sri Lanka is at number 8. In Odis, they are slightly better than eagerness, despite not earning merit for next year’s Champions Trophy, and sit at number 6. They need to progress on both fronts, who are the captains of both forms since August this year.
“We need to climb the ranking, as it shows that we are continuously winning,” he said. “Our goal is to climb the top three in the ranking. If we are continuously winning, we will not be revealed when we go to the ICC tournament.
“We have played good teams and won, as we used to do in 2014 and before, when we used to reach the semi -finals easily. We are expecting to return to that level. It is important to play really well from the tour to the tour.”
“We only started winning some matches in a row,” said Actanka. “This is the same team that is played. As long as the base of our cricket does not improve a little further, we are trying to play the best XI. But we have a big plus point, which is that the players on the bench also have a chance, and they have done well before going back to the bench.
“We are hoping to play our best XI all the time. In this way the strength of our bench also improves, because they then know how well you have to play to get a place in that XI. And players in XI also fight for their own places. I think we have recently improved that situation. We hope that we can develop 15/16 during a year.”
