This will be the first in county cricket for Stent Thakur, which was available after being unsold in the November IPL auction. For India, he has taken more than 100 wickets in all three formats, with his last appearance on South Africa’s 2023–24 tour.
“I feel excited to join Essex in this summer,” said Thakur. “Personally, it brings new challenges and opportunities to showcase my talent and skills. County cricket is something that I always wanted to experience and I am happy that I will represent eagles.”
Thakur is the latest India International to play County Championship cricket in Chelmsford in recent times, which follow the footsteps of Umesh Yadav, Murali Vijay and India’s current head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
All -rounder partner will line up with foreign bowler Simon Humor, Essex made a strong start in the first championship title discovery since 2019, when he takes the champions at home in the early stages, to Surrey.
“In Shardul, we have just signed it, and we can’t wait to welcome him to Essex and see how he meets in the county championship.”
