The SA20, the next version of the season Four, is ready to kick at Boxing Day 2025. It was declared on Monday, with League firming Windows for the next three versions before the playoffs of this season. Bringing the league forward for Christmas week – prime time in the South African cricket calendar – was possible because there is no home test in South Africa in 2025–26 summer.
Season Fives and Six will return in January of the second week, which is likely to start from January 9 in both 2027 and 2028, with five to six days longer than one running the season. CSA confirmed Espncricinfo that the dates declared were not specific start and last dates, but windows within which the league would be played.
In 2025–26, South Africa travels to India for an all-format tour in November-December before returning home for the SA20, which will end by 26 January. Then, South Africa hosted the West Indies for a T20I series.
The competition for players with ILT20 to bring the next season should reduce the competition slightly – for their first three sessions, both the tournaments almost ended from the beginning to the final – but still with the Big Bash League in Australia and Bangladesh There will be an important struggle. Premier League, both usually begin in December.
“Initial plans also mean that we are able to see an extended window from 2026-27 and it will optimize scheduling, logistics and fan experiences.”
“It is not only that it is a hard cricket on the field; it is scheduling, a plan, which needs to take a break, how do you put your squad together that adds an additional dimension to the thought process. I think I think I think That is a little more downtime will be helpful.
The SA20 media release stated that decisions on windows were taken into account by “a working group made of both League and Cricket South Africa”.
