In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, Shreyas Iyer was sold to Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 26.75 crore ahead of the eighteenth edition. Punjab, who went into the auction with the highest purse among all the teams, spent huge money on quality players. More recently, Iyer, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title in the last edition, was also announced as the captain of Punjab for the upcoming season.
For those unaware, KKR did not retain Iyer despite lifting the trophy as captain and as a result, he fetched a huge price at the auction table. The cricketer opened up on the retention talks with the franchise ahead of the auction and courted controversy by saying that concerted efforts were made by the team to retain him with the Knight Riders setup.
“We had talks right after the IPL championship. But there was a halt for a few months and no concrete efforts were made for retention talks. I was wondering what was happening. So, due to lack of communication, we There came a situation where we parted ways by mutual consent and that’s the long and short of it,” Iyer told The Indian Express in an interview.
Former KKR cricketer reacting to this Aakash Chopra Revealed that there must have been a long conversation, and also termed Iyer’s comments as a false statement.
,Shreyas IyerInteresting is the statement that no one talked to him. He said that KKR did not even talk to him. I can confirm that a conversation took place, it was long and happened several times. You could not reach any agreement there. This is a separate issue,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“This is a franchise that invests in relationships, I am not going to describe it, but Shreyas had some apprehensions about how things would unfold in the auction, the karma is real Buddy!Chopra said.
