Earlier this week, it was reported that both franchises were in advanced talks on a possible trade. However, both the camps have denied that such discussion took place. Speaking to Cricbuzz, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan claimed that any talks about a potential trade would take place only after the conclusion of the 2026 Major League Cricket, which involves the Texas Super Kings.
“We haven't taken any decisions, and it's certainly not on the table yet. We know which players are open to trade and we will discuss it once we complete our review of the season, which will be after the current MLC. There's still plenty of time for that,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told Cricbuzz.
MIOn the other hand, they are involved in an in-depth review of their 2026 season, which started after the AGM of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). According to the above source, the review is going to be more unfavorable this time after MI finished bottom in two of the last three campaigns.
An MI spokesperson said in an official statement, “We are not currently involved in negotiations regarding the trade of players, this is only possible after the review has been completed. We have just commenced the post-season review and will look at all aspects of the team. As with any review of this nature, a number of options and considerations will be evaluated before any decisions are made in relation to the players.”
It is safe to say that MI will have the upper hand in the negotiations, as multiple teams are interested in securing Hardik's services for the 2027 season. These include the above mentioned CSK as well as Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals. So the trade will largely depend on what the five-time champions get in return, whether it's a cash deal or a player.
