2027 season of Indian Premier League (IPL) All set to launch earlier than expected. The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devjit Saikia, has suggested that they are considering starting the next season of this cash-rich tournament by the second week of March and concluding it with the final to be played around May 15.
Typically, the IPL starts in the last week of March and continues throughout May. However, with weather conditions changing at the moment, Saikia admitted that players and fans face difficulties during the conduct of matches. As a result, discussions are underway to prepare for this important event as soon as possible.
“This year, the IPL started around March 29, and it was over by May 31. We are only discussing that in the last phase of the tournament, after May 15, there are issues regarding the weather, especially in some areas, there is a possibility of rain or the start of the pre-monsoon season or on the other hand, there is hot weather, hot conditions, which are not very conducive neither for the players, nor for the crowd or for the fans.” India TV quoted Saikia as saying.
Sakiya further said that bcci It is prepared to make every possible effort to ensure that the tournament starts by mid-March, which will be beneficial in overcoming the adverse changes in weather in some parts of the country. The board is also adamant on playing the finals in the next fortnight of May, which will help deal with any possible rain disruptions in the playoffs as they have no reserve days.
“So, there are discussions going on in the BCCI as well as in our IPL Governing Council whether we can start the tournament a little before the end of March. From next year, we will try and I have already instructed our general manager of game development to look at the window whether we can start it by March 10, so we want to finish it by May 15 so that there are no adverse weather conditions before the final stage of IPL 2027. Playoffs and finals, which will be the 20th edition of the IPL.
IPL 2027 is expected to be a grand affair as Royal Challengers Bangalore will try to become the first team to score a hat-trick of the championship.
