Former India selector MSK Prasad has appreciated Vaibhav Suryavanshi As a 'super talent' and arguably the best T20 player in the world at the moment, he urged the selectors to include the teenage sensation in India's squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland later this month.
Suryavanshi enjoyed a phenomenal campaign in the Indian Premier League 2026, where he dominated the competition despite being just 15 years old. The youngster finished the season with the Orange Cap, also claiming the Most Valuable Player award, Most Sixes Award and Highest Strike Rate accolade.
“He is not just a prodigy or a super talent. He is already one of the best players in the world in T20 cricket. He should be included in the Indian team immediately. He should be selected for the Ireland series which will be followed by the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka,” Prasad was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
“I think he has every chance of being included in the senior Indian team. I think he will also perform brilliantly in the India A tri-series in Sri Lanka. Look, there is no point in holding him back. He will be playing for India soon and for a long time,” the former Indian wicket-keeper batsman predicted. Playing in India A and then playing for India is usually the ideal, but playing in the high-pressure IPL among the best players in the world is the best way to break into the Indian team. I think the selectors are also thinking on the same lines. It is just a matter of time that he will play for India and play for a long time.”
However, Prasad also offered a note of caution for Sooryavanshi despite its extraordinary growth. Prasad advised the 15-year-old player to focus on improving his fitness and stressed that physical conditioning will be key to maintaining success at the highest level over a long career. Praising Suryavanshi's dominance in T20 cricket, Prasad said the youngster is already competing with some of the best players in the world and should now be tested in other formats as well.
“It was good to see that in the post-match conversation on Sunday he said that he needs to improve his fitness. He has been under the tutelage of the NCA for some time now. Look he is only 15 years old. He needs to be handled carefully and looked after. I think he should be under the tutelage of (VVS) Laxman or (Rahul) Dravid for some time. They are the people who can keep him humble. His career needs to be shaped the right way at this stage.” Prasad said.
“Forget India, he is one of the best in the world. He is undoubtedly a big surprise package. Although he should play for India in T20Is, he should be monitored well for two years and then he can work on his own. He should gradually start playing in ODIs and other formats, starting with T20Is. Of course, he has the ability to play longer formats as he has shown that he can take the best players in the world and tear them apart The best thing is that he understands the game so much.” Added.
