IPL has taken strict steps against the use of smart glasses during live matches

IPLThe Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has issued a new advisory to players and support staff regarding the use of smart glasses, sunglasses and similar wearables equipped with communication and recording technology inside restricted areas on match days. According to information provided to BCCI by ACSU, several companies are actively marketing and selling smart eyewear items to IPL players and team members.

According to reports, these smart devices were flagged by ACSU due to their ability to enable live-streaming, sending text messages, and making audio and video calls through mobile data or Wi-Fi networks. This raised concerns over potential abuse through external communication possibilities.

The ACSU has reaffirmed that the use or possession of smart glasses or other wearable technology within the Players and Match Officials' Area (PMOA) is strictly prohibited. Before entering restricted areas on match days, players and support personnel have been asked to leave their cell phones and smart watches along with such devices with security officials. The directive comes amid season-wide precautionary measures initiated by the ACSU during the current season.

“With wearable technology becoming more sophisticated and concerns growing over covert communication methods, the ACSU's latest action underlines the league's effort to stay ahead of emerging integrity risks during one of world cricket's most commercially important tournaments,” sources told The Indian Express.

As previously reported, the ACSU raised concerns about unauthorized individuals attempting to loiter near dugouts and hospitality areas to initiate informal contact with players and support staff.

Non-playing team members such as net bowlers, logistics staff, throwdown specialists and other temporary personnel were advised to ensure that they remain within the approved access protocols and not carry unauthorized communication devices into the PMOA and other sensitive areas. The ACSU also recently highlighted other incidents related to the possession and use of vapes and smoking in restricted areas after the Rajasthan Royals captain. Riyan Parag Was seen smoking a cigarette in the dressing room during the game.

It was further informed that the teams have been instructed to avoid unnecessary movement at public entry points and around the perimeter of the hotel, which are considered unsafe from the anti-corruption monitoring point of view. Informal meeting places such as hotel lobbies, cafes, smoking areas and post-match hospitality areas have long been viewed by the ACSU as potential gateways for bookmakers and unlicensed agents.
