IPL 2026: 'Haters will say you are not 15 years old'

Andre Russell, one of the all-time great Indian Premier League (IPL) players, praised Vaibhav Suryavanshi The youngster played a blistering inning of 97 runs in just 29 balls in the eliminator between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mullanpur on Wednesday, May 27.

During his brilliant innings, Suryavanshi hit five fours and 12 sixes, and finished with an astonishing strike rate of 334.48. Riding on their explosive batting and Dhruv Jurel's 50 off 21 balls, the Royals finished at 243/8 when invited to bat first. In reply, Sunrisers team was out for 196 runs in 19.2 overs.

During the historic innings, Suryavanshi broke Chris Gayle's record of most sixes hit by a batsman in an IPL season. The Caribbean legend had hit 59 sixes during IPL 2012. However, Suryavanshi has already hit 65 sixes and has at least one more match to play, which is Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 29.

Russell, who is third in the list of batsmen hitting most sixes in an IPL season, shared a picture on his Instagram story appreciating Suryavanshi. Describing himself as a “big fan”, Russell advised the young player to ignore the haters, especially those questioning his actual age.

Since last year, when Suryavanshi burst onto the IPL scene and scored an emphatic century against Gujarat Titans, some people have questioned his age. During the current edition of the IPL, Suryavanshi has scored 680 runs in 15 innings at an average of 45.33 and a strike rate of 242.86.

Talking about Qualifier 2, this important match will be played at Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Suryavanshi and the Royals will look to continue from where they left off in the last game. Interestingly, the inaugural champions have played four matches at this venue so far and have won all of them.
