'But not in Test cricket'

In an interview with Times of India, Ganguly said, “He should be included immediately in T20 but not in Test cricket. He has to score more runs in first-class cricket to get a place. But right now he is very talented. It is unprecedented to see a 15-year-old boy bat like this against everyone in the world. He is the future of India.”

“He is a very good Test player. His Test match batting is world class. He is still finding it difficult to adapt to 120 cricket. I hope he does because he has tremendous talent. Captaincy is a burden on everyone. It depends on how you handle it. But then you want to be the captain, right? You want to be the captain because it is a big honour,” Ganguly said.

Pant's captaincy and batting form remained in the headlines throughout the season, with many questioning whether the added responsibility had affected his performances. However, Ganguly backed the wicketkeeper-batsman to overcome the challenges and regain his best form in the shortest format.
