India's T20 captain and Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav He has dismissed rumors of him being troubled by a wrist injury, which has led to a significant decline in his form in the IPL.
Coming into the 2026 IPL after a 700-plus run season in 2025, Suryakumar managed only 270 runs in 13 matches with two half-centuries. Rumors of him suffering from a wrist injury have been spreading on social media, prompting him to clarify his position on the issue.
“First of all, I would like to clarify the situation a bit. People who are talking about wrist injury are either pure physios or people who do not understand cricket. Because if I actually had a wrist injury or any such problem, the shots I am playing in practice and matches, especially my flick shots, which are completely wrist-based and dependent on hand-eye coordination, I would not have been able to play those shots. But I will not be able to play more about that. Don't want to say anything because it's not under my control, and I don't pay much attention to them,” Suryakumar said while speaking to broadcasters ahead of MI's clash against RR, as reported by NDTV.
Suryakumar ended his season with 60 off 42 balls against the Royals, his second half-century of the season. Talking about the decline in his form, he said that despite the lack of comeback in the IPL, he is working on his batting. Before the World Cup, he was named Player of the Series after scoring 242 runs at a strike rate of 196.74 against New Zealand. After this he scored 242 runs in the successful T20 World Cup campaign and led India to the trophy.
He said, “As you said, I have worked hard throughout the season. I also worked hard at the beginning of the year. In the New Zealand series, I won the Player of the Series award. Then I had a good World Cup, at least according to me. Then came the IPL. I didn't score runs in the IPL, but I never stopped working hard.”
He said, “I try to focus on what is in my hands. At the end of the day, performance is never guaranteed. What is in your control is hard work. So I keep working hard and try to do my best. If success comes, it is great. If we don't get it, it is also okay. We will go back to the drawing board and work hard again. God is watching. Sooner or later, the rewards will come.”
The 35-year-old's poor form was reflected in MI's 2026 season. The five-time champions finished ninth on the points table with eight points from four wins from 14 games.
