Television actress Sana Maqbul gained attention on social media after openly expressing her admiration for the Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer. His comments came at a crucial time for the star batsman, who is currently handling key leadership responsibilities in the Indian Premier League.
During an interview, Maqbul revealed that she has always admired elite athletes for their discipline, confidence and competitive mindset. He particularly mentioned Iyer's sensational fielding effort which left a lasting impression on him and strengthened his admiration for the Indian star. His candid comments quickly went viral among cricket and entertainment fans, sparking widespread discussion across various social media platforms.
“Shreyas Iyer. Recently, what a catch he was. I like cricketers. If Shreyas Iyer asked me, I would love to go on a date with him. I think he is someone I like. I mean, I know he can't cook like that,” Maqbul said on FilmyGyan.
Despite facing criticism over the disappointing end to Punjab Kings' IPL campaign, Shreyas Iyer enjoyed an impressive season with the bat. Punjab started strongly by winning their first six matches, but poor performances in the latter stages saw them exit the tournament before the playoffs. Questions were raised on Iyer's leadership as the team failed to maintain momentum when it mattered most.
However, the Indian batsman performed consistently throughout the season and scored 498 runs in 13 innings at an impressive average of 55.33. His performance with the bat has been one of the few positives for Punjab Kings during a difficult finale to the campaign.
Now with the IPL over, Iyer is ready to focus his attention on international cricket. The right-handed batsman has been appointed the vice-captain for India's upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The bilateral series begins on June 14 in Dharamsala, where Iyer will look to continue his excellent form.
