IPL 2026: 'There can be no comparison': Sunil Gavaskar on Kohli-head incident


former indian captain Sunil Gavaskar Has talked about the comparison between the incident between Virat Kohli and Travis Head and his famous 'walk-off' from the MCG Test against Australia.

Kohli Recently, during the IPL 2026 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad, there was a war of words between Head and Head, which ended with the Indian batsman refusing to shake hands with the Australian cricketer after the game.

Gavaskar rejected the claim that the incident was comparable to the 1981 incident. After this a war of words started, due to which Gavaskar and fellow opener Chetan Chauhan had to leave the field.

Speaking to the press, Gavaskar said, “Nothing like this happened, there can be no comparison. You have to ask both of them what happened.”

The cricketer turned commentator said such incidents can happen due to the circumstances of representing the country in a high-intensity sport, in the heat of the moment. The 76-year-old further said that incidents happening today become public very quickly because of social media.

Speaking on the Mid-Wicket Stories show, he said, “Anything can happen in the heat of the moment. There were no stump mics in our time, so nothing went out. But with the stump mic you can hear what's happening. At the end of the day, when you play for your country, you give almost everything, blood, sweat and tears.”
