Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face each other in a crucial encounter in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Friday, May 22, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. While both the teams have made it to the playoffs, they will be looking to win on Friday to seal a top two finish. A win will be enough for RCB, while SRH will have to win by a big margin to make their net run rate better than Gujarat Titans.
SRH vs RCB: Toss Update
Pat Cummins won the toss and decided to bat first and said that his batsmen would like to score big in the first innings. Rajat Patidar, who returned to the team after missing the last game for RCB against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala, looked satisfied with the bowling first.
SRH vs RCB: Rajat Patidar replaces Jacob Bethel, SRH make no changes
Patidar replaced Jacob Bethel who was struggling with poor form. The RCB captain mentioned that Bethel had suffered a finger injury, which forced him out of the game. SRH, on the other hand, will be fielding the same team that played their last game.
SRH vsRCB: What did the captains say?
Pat Cummins, SRH captain,
We will bat first. I think it's a tall order to get into the top two, but we'll give it a good challenge tonight. We're pretty sure the boys are going to enjoy it tonight. We're going to test how good you are, maybe try some new things before the finals. But just, again, bat first, try and get as big a score as we can if we can defend. (On this season) Yeah, it's been really nice to qualify before this last game. People have been performing really well consistently throughout the year. So, yes, this is probably the last one before we get really serious. (On the supporters) They have been amazing here in Uppal. There are queues on all the roads, the hotel has been very busy for the last few days. Yeah, we've won pretty much every night game here this season, too. So, hopefully it ends on a good note. Same combination as the previous game.
Rajat Patidar, RCB captain,
I think, wherever we go, it's a home game for us. (What do you want to take from this game?) According to me, I think it does not matter where you stand in the points table. Whether you are on top or bottom, you have to play and you have to conform to the standards in every game. (On ticking a lot of boxes this season) Yeah, I think so. This is important when you play a competitive game like IPL, very difficult. It is important if you win, if you are aiming for the final match to win the championship, you have to tick all the boxes. (Provided there are not many injuries) Yes, definitely. This time we are not facing any kind of injury. There is a change. Bethel was injured. He has injured his finger and I am coming to Bethel's place.
