Former India wicketkeeper Kiran More recalled how he felt watching Sachin Tendulkar bat for the first time and said he too gets a similar feeling when Vaibhav Suryavanshi Troubles the bowlers.
Suryavanshi created a stir in the cricket world by scoring a strong century against Gujarat Titans (GT) while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This season, in the IPL, he has made a great start to his career, scoring 579 runs in 13 innings at an average of 44.54 and a strike rate of 236.33. The 15-year-old has made a strong case for himself as he hopes to be included in the Indian squad for the first time for the T20 series against Ireland next month.
News18 Cricket Next quoted More as saying, “When I first saw Sachin Tendulkar, coming into the Indian team for the first time, and batting against a great bowler, I immediately knew he was something special. It's the same with Vaibhav Suryavanshi; he is special.”
He said, “It is good that we have such a player. He will bring great glory to the country. Let him play the way he plays. God has created him for this game and prepared him well.”
Tendulkar is considered one of the best players to have played the game. He is the highest run scorer in Test matches and ODIs. He made his debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days and remains the youngest player to do so for the Indian men's team. However, Sooryavanshi could be a record breaker.
Will RR qualify for the playoffs?
If the Royals can win their last game in the league stage, they will seal the fourth playoff spot. They will face Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, May 24.
Royals are coming into this game on the back of a comprehensive seven-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants, as they chased down the target of 221 runs with seven wickets and five balls to spare, riding on Suryavanshi's 93 off 38 balls.
