Batting first, Gujarat Titans scored an impressive 229/4 in 20 overs thanks to brilliant half-centuries from Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. His aggressive batting performance took GT comfortably past 200 runs. For CSK, Gurjapaneet Singh emerged as the most economical bowler while the remaining wickets were shared by three bowlers with one wicket each.
In reply, Chennai Super Kings suffered a batting collapse and were all out for 140 in just 13.4 overs. Shivam Dubey struggled alone with a top score of 47, but there was a lack of support from the other end as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Gujarat's bowling attack dominated, with Mohammed Siraj, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan taking three wickets each.
With the emphatic win, Gujarat Titans finished second in the points table with nine wins in 14 matches. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings crashed out of the tournament after their eighth defeat of the season.

GT's top order batsmen continue their dominance
Gujarat Titans once again showcased their top-order batting prowess as Sai Sudarshan, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler dismantled the Chennai Super Kings bowling attack. Sudarshan and Gill built a brilliant century opening partnership to provide the right platform for GT. After Gill's dismissal, Sudarshan continued his aggressive approach with Buttler and the duo added 82 runs in just 36 balls for the third wicket.

GT's bowling attack ensured that CSK never lost momentum during the chase. Mohammed Siraj made an immediate impact by taking important wickets in the powerplay, putting Chennai under pressure early in the innings. Rashid Khan then controlled the middle overs brilliantly, dismissing three key batsmen and preventing anyone from making a comeback. Kagiso Rabada sealed the contest with three wickets as GT bowled out CSK for 140 in just 13.4 overs.

With the heavy defeat, Chennai Super Kings are officially out of the race for the IPL 2026 playoffs after their eighth defeat of the season. The five-time champions suffered another disappointing campaign and will now miss the playoffs for the third consecutive year, a rare collapse for one of the league's most successful franchises.

We wanted to chase whatever score as quickly as possible. It is not easy against that bowling attack when you are chasing 230. Thought why don't we give it a chance and express ourselves, credit goes to them. The wicket was spongy initially, they got off to a good start. Our bowling was not good in the powerplay. It is difficult to stop their opening batsmen. We had a chance to restrict them to under 200, but we failed to do so. Difficult season, followed by a hat-trick of defeats for the first time. We got the pace, we got the right positions and combinations, but then we suffered injuries. The dismissal of Ghosh and Overton made us unstable, we were short of batsmen or bowlers in the last three matches. Many people don't accept the fact that we are a young team in transition, with many inexperienced players. More than 8-10 players have played less than 20 games, they have got exposure, we have found out what areas we lack. We still got six wins away from home, we're proud of the unit. We missed chasing 80 in 10 runs in Hyderabad and couldn't stop them in Chennai. Not able to do this. Still proud. The experience we had is tough, moving on from Rahane, Rayudu etc… Karthik, Urvil and Brewis, who were missed initially, are there. Karthik has potential, there are areas for improvement. There is a need to maintain intent and impact in the playoffs. After 12 games, we were number 1 last season, we are the same this time too. We lost the last two last season. There was some deja vu but I don't think we did anything different this season. We have been consistently number 1 or 2. Very grateful for the fans who come and support us. Teams like RCB and CSK will have the upper hand, nothing will change in this matter.

The ball is coming out well. I was sitting out for most of the matches in the World Cup, I was working hard in the nets. I was not bowling well in the first few matches but I have regained my rhythm. I work on my rhythm, yorkers and bowling everything at different stages. I will always try to drive Sanju on the red clay pitch. I don't try too much and keep things simple, if I can maintain the pressure then Rabada can still take wickets.
