Lucknow Super Giants suffered another disappointing performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 when they lost to Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on May 19. Despite scoring a huge score of 220/5, the visitors failed to defend the score as RR chased the target in only 19.1 overs and finished at 225/3.
After the defeat, LSG captain Rishabh Pant He offered an honest and fearless assessment of his side's campaign that has taken social media by storm.
Pant said after the match, “We are proud as a team, no matter what our position is right now. The kind of team we have, we know we can win it. Whatever happens, we are quite confident as a team and as individuals. It hasn't gone our way, and everyone knows that, but that doesn't take away the fact that we are a good team.”
LSG made a strong start with the bat and crossed the 220-run mark on a batting-friendly Jaipur surface. Pant, however, felt his team fell behind by a few runs, especially in the death overs where RR paceman Jofra Archer bowled impressive spells.
“I think there are a few ways to look at it. In the middle overs and then in the last over, the way Archer bowled, I think it was really good. But when you get starts like that, we really could have scored five or ten runs more on a wicket like this, and we couldn't take advantage of that in the last over,” Pant added.
The wicketkeeper-batsman also talked about the challenges bowlers face while defending scores on flat surfaces in T20 cricket. According to Pant, in such circumstances bowlers have very little margin for error.
“It's definitely tough because you always want to support your bowlers, but sometimes it's tough. On a wicket like this, there's less margin for the bowlers and giving too many tips doesn't work. Sometimes you have to keep a simple plan, focus on one ball at a time and just try to execute the plan,” he said.
It has been a disappointing season for the LSG team, as they have managed to win only four out of their first 13 matches so far. They are currently out of the race for the playoffs but the fate of the playoffs is in the hands of Punjab Kings. The two sides will meet on May 23 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
