great cricketer ms dhoni He might have one more season of IPL in store, as the Chennai Super Kings management is confident that the wicketkeeper-batsman will play one final match for the franchise at his home ground in the 2027 season of the tournament before retiring. Dhoni has not traveled with the CSK team for their last league stage match of 2026 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Dhoni's unavailability in Ahmedabad means that this could be the first season where he has missed all the matches due to his long-term calf injury. While Dhoni has always been an emotional figure for his fans, his loyalists will be eager to see him take the field for the last time before he retires and ends a historic career.
According to RevSportz, the CSK management is hopeful that Dhoni will be available to play at least one game in the upcoming 2027 edition of the marquee T20 tournament at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai as the franchise is almost out of the current season.
For those unaware, CSK was set to include Dhoni in the playing eleven for their last home match of 2026 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, May 18. However, it seems that the cricketer was not fully fit and match ready to be able to take the field, ruling him out of contention to take part in the all-important contest, where CSK lost in a last-over thriller.
While many fans and cricket pundits believed that Dhoni would no longer play in the IPL, his former CSK and India teammates Suresh Raina Was seen chatting with the cricketer at the end of the match. The cricketer-turned-commentator revealed his conversation with the veteran stumper-batsman after the game, saying that he has asked the 44-year-old to come back to play for the five-time champions once again in 2027.
“I told MS Dhoni 'You have given a missed call to IPL 2026. It will not count. You have to come back next year.'
If rumors of the last dance taking place in 2027 are to be believed, it will be a rollercoaster of emotions for fans. But with MS Dhoni it never happens until it actually happens.
