KKR now have a great chance to make the top four, while GT will be looking for a win in their last league-stage encounter to ensure they finish in the top two.
The game started with Finn Allen (93 off 35) cleaning up the Gujarat bowlers, and the KKR opener was later joined by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (82 off 44), who attacked with ease and were partners in crime to cause damage in the middle overs. Cameron Green (52 off 28) also played a key role as the hosts posted a challenging score of 247-2 on the board after the first innings.
In reply, Gujarat had a very good start and at one point even looked comfortable. Captain Shubman Gill (85 off 49) looked good despite Sai Sudarshan (53* off 28 balls) retiring hurt in the powerplay. Jos Buttler (57 off 35) struggled to hit the ball hard as the asking rate got the better of Gujarat. Eventually, the pressure got to Gill and he succumbed to experienced campaigner Sunil Narine (2-29) in the 17th over, with the target already looking out of reach.
Meanwhile, Gujarat lost the battle to Kolkata as Saurabh Dubey (1-23) almost confirmed the inevitable with just five runs and the prized scalp of Buttler in the final over of the innings. Sudarshan came back to bat after Gill's fall, but failed to make progress and break the shackles as GT's ship continued to sink.
In the end, KKR topped by 29 runs and collected two very important points to make it to the top four.
