The upcoming ICC meetings to be held in Ahmedabad have become even more important due to uncertainty over Mohsin Naqvi's visit to India. The ICC Chief Executive Committee meeting is scheduled virtually on May 21, while the ICC Board meeting will take place during the same weekend on May 30 and 31 in Ahmedabad. Originally planned for Doha, the meetings were moved to India due to ongoing instability in West Asia. That change has put the spotlight on Naqvi, who apart from being the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, also serves as Pakistan's federal interior minister and chairman of the Asian Cricket Council.
According to a report by Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta, Naqvi has reportedly received an invitation to attend the IPL 2026 final, although the report said this could not be independently confirmed.

The possibility of his visit has attracted attention as relations between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the PCB have remained strained in recent months. A major shock came during the Asia Cup trophy presentation in Dubai, where reports revealed that the Indian team refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi after the final. The situation reportedly ended when Naqvi left the venue with the trophy and medals, which have since been in the control of the PCB in Dubai.
Tension reportedly escalated when the BCCI demanded the return of the trophy and escalated the matter to the ICC level. Naqvi's comments that the Pakistan Super League could eventually overtake the Indian Premier League commercially also increased the rift between the two boards.
For the ICC, the Ahmedabad meetings remain part of its regular governance programme. However, for India-Pakistan cricket relations, the central question now is whether Naqvi will attend in person, participate remotely, or whether Pakistan will send an alternate representative.
