Batting coach of Mumbai Indians Kieron Pollard has been fined for using obscenity during the win over Punjab Kings in Match 58 of the 2026 Indian Premier League at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.
The incident reportedly occurred in the 19th over of Mumbai Indians' chase, with Pollard found guilty of using audible obscene words towards the fourth umpire. He has been found guilty of breaching Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers offenses of this nature. He has been fined 15 percent of the match fee and one demerit point.
“Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard has been fined 15% of the applicable match fee and earned one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials,” an official IPL media advisory read.
“Pollard was found to have breached Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with “use of audible obscenity during a match”. The incident occurred in the 19th over of the second innings when Pollard used abusive language towards the fourth umpire. Pollard pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the penalty imposed by the match referee, Pankaj Dharmani.
Pollard, a veteran of the franchise, is serving as the batting coach for the five-time champions from 2023. He is one of MI's most iconic players, having contributed heavily in all five of their trophy runs, and has been a part of the team in a key backroom role.
Mumbai Indians registered their fourth win of the season against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala. Electing to field first, they restricted Punjab Kings to a total of 200/8 in their 20 overs, with the returning Shardul Thakur taking 4 for 39.
Despite initial difficulties they chased the target Tilak Verma Scored unbeaten 75 runs in 33 balls. With 50 runs required from the last three overs, Tilak began attacking the Kings bowlers, ably supported by Will Jacks, who scored an unbeaten 25 off just 10 balls. The pair ensured the five-time champions reached home with six wickets in hand and one ball to spare, giving stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah a win in his first game while leading the franchise.
The five-time champions have been ruled out of IPL 2026, but will be looking to end their season on a high note. They will travel to Eden Gardens to take on Kolkata Knight Riders on May 20, before concluding their campaign against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on May 24.
