Gujarat Titans registered an impressive 82-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Tuesday, May 12. The hosts ousted SRH from the top spot on the points table, almost ensuring their qualification for the playoffs after an all-round performance in Ahmedabad.
The match started with SRH deciding to bowl first as GT lost their captain Shubman Gill And Jos Buttler had left the scorecard at 34 for two at the end of the powerplay early on. After this, opener Sai Sudarshan adopted a cautious approach, Nishant Sindhu played an inning of 22 runs in 14 balls. Washington Sundar (50 off 33 balls) played an excellent role in the middle and scored his first half-century of the season.
GT, after a good bowling performance from their attack, scored 168-5 in 20 overs, but Prafulla Hinz was the best performer, taking the crucial wickets of Gill and Buttler in the powerplay. Captain Pat Cummins also bowled a composed spell of 1-20, while Saqib Hussain took two wickets in his four overs. But the batting unit could not build on the platform provided by the bowlers.
Opener Travis Head was out for a duck in four balls in the first over, while his partner Abhishek Sharma was out for a duck after six balls. Ishan Kishan showed intent by hitting a four and a six, but his stay was short-lived. Ravichandran Smaran, the last of the four top-order left-handers, was out after scoring nine runs out of 15. The collapse of in-form Heinrich Klaasen was another tragedy as SRH lost half the team for 56 runs.
Salil Arora and Nitish Kumar Reddy could not do much, while Cummins tried to counterattack by scoring 19 runs in nine balls. Gujarat's extremely disciplined bowling performance was led by Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder, both of whom took three wickets, while Prasidh Krishna continued his good form with a few breakthroughs. Mohammed Siraj took only one wicket, but bowled one maiden over and gave away 11 runs.
