WBCL 2024: Bangladesh’s first women’s three-day competition to start on December 21

The Women’s Bangladesh Cricket League (WBCL), the country’s first three-day women’s competition, will begin at two venues in Rajshahi on December 21. The BCB has organized the tournament to kick-start the process of building its first Test squad, although the board is yet to set a timetable.

“We have to be ready in red-ball cricket,” said the BCB women’s cricket official. Habibul Basharhe said “Most of our female cricketers haven’t seen the red ball at all. It’s white ball cricket for them as all our domestic cricket is with the white ball. They’ve maybe only played two red ball games . We will apply for first-class status as we have everything needed for this type of cricket.”

“It’s a very good initiative by the BCB,” Bashar said. “The challenge was to start it, so we’ve had a bit of time this month. We’ve got the West Indies tour ready. We had to start the tournament. We won’t have time until June next year.”

Bashar said the plan was to give enough time to the Bangladeshi players bound for the West Indies next month, so four matches would be held in December. The rest of the tournament will be played in January.

Bangladesh was granted full membership status in women’s cricket in 2021 along with Afghanistan (which does not have a women’s team) and Zimbabwe, and this is the second edition of the WBCL, which was played in a format two-day in 2023. countries that have women’s multi-day cricket, there is the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy in India, while Australia has recently started three-day Test matches for his red ball team.
