Match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) It sparked some controversy online when a personnel wearing LSG gear was seen talking on a mobile phone.
During the first over of the LSG innings, Josh Inglis hit a four off Akeal Hosein. After the ball reached the boundary, a gentleman was caught on camera talking on a mobile phone. The use of mobile phones or any other type of electronic devices in the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) is strictly prohibited as per BCCI protocols. PMOA venues include the dressing room, TV umpire's room, match referee's room, dugouts and other locations within the ground.
Therefore, it is worth mentioning that even though the personnel caught on camera was an LSG staff member, he was not present in any designated PMOA area, meaning he did not violate BCCI protocols. However, it is noteworthy that it is difficult to know where the person concerned was sitting and where he was seen using his mobile phone. It may be in a VIP area for fans to enjoy the game.
The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen a lot of controversies, with the use of mobile phones in the dugout being one of the biggest controversies. Earlier this season, Rajasthan Royals (RR) team manager Romi Bhinder was seen using his mobile phone while sitting right next to Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the team's dugout during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Guwahati.
Bhinder was later fined Rs 1 lakh after he confessed to the crime and tendered an unconditional apology. The RR manager, who has been a part of the franchise since its inception in 2008, later announced his medical issues as an explanation for the offence, which was duly accepted by the BCCI.
CSK won this game by five wickets over LSG. The five-time champions chased down 204 with just four balls remaining in a nervy end to the game in Chepauk.
