Donovan Ferreira Admitted that the years spent waiting on the sidelines in the Indian Premier League (IPL) have become a major source of inspiration behind his performances for Rajasthan Royals (RR) this season. RR is currently facing Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Ferreira talked about finally getting consistent opportunities after limited playing time during his first three seasons in the IPL. The South African cricketer has become one of the most dangerous finishers for RR in IPL 2026. In 10 matches this season, Ferreira has scored 229 runs at an impressive average of 45.80 and a strike rate of 177.52. His impact has been particularly significant in the death overs, where he has time and again accelerated the innings with fearless and aggressive strokeplay.
“I don't really know. It must just be in the middle of my bat. Or are they just sending me better bats. No, I think it's just the way it's working, swinging nice and hard. And it leaves me nice and refreshed now, like a car battery fully charged after a full break. So yes, ready to play today and hopefully we can have a little more success today,” as quoted by Times of India. Ferreira said.
Ferreira explained that finishing games is a role he has played throughout his career and that he really enjoys it, despite the pressure that comes with it. He also admitted that the lack of opportunities during his last IPL season is boosting his motivation this year as well. He said the frustration of being on the sidelines for years has motivated him to make the most of every opportunity he gets with RR in IPL 2026.
“I mean, it's kind of my role on the team and that's what I have time for. So, I think it's exciting for me to be in that role. I've always been in that role my entire career. So when it comes up it's nice because when it doesn't come up, you kind of look at, how can I say, it doesn't feel good. But yeah, for me, it's taking off, so hopefully that can continue going forward,” Ferreira said.
“I think for me, especially in the IPL, that's been a big motivator, it's my fourth season now and I haven't really got a lot of opportunities. I took a lot of drinks in the first three seasons. So, for me, that was quite a big motivation, especially in this tournament. And then going into other tournaments, I just try to find motivation for that specific tournament because for me, per tournament it's quite important to keep it focused, good and focused. And when you go to the next one, you really Let's do that. Focus our attention on that tournament and get some fresh motivation again,” he concluded.
