Pat Cummins offered $4 million deal by Cricket Australia to compete in lucrative IPL

pat cummins An annual contract worth four million dollars (approximately Rs 22 crore) has reportedly been offered by Cricket Australia (CA) as the board looks to counter the growing financial drag of the IPL (Indian Premier League0 and other franchise leagues).

According to a report by Australian outlet The Age, Cummins has been offered a deal till 2029, which if signed could earn him around 12 million Australian dollars (about Rs 66 crore) over three years.

The proposed extension would reportedly increase the Australian captain's salary by approximately AUD 1 million annually, allowing Australia to play 21 Test matches in 12 months in a busy and tough international schedule.

It is important to note that the right-arm fast bowler, who is currently leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026, was retained by the franchise last year for Rs 18 crore. Under his leadership, the Orange Army reached the final in 2024 and are on top of the table this year with seven wins from 11 matches.

Under Cricket Australia's current Memorandum of Understanding, the average male retainer before match fees and retirement is just over one million Australian dollars annually. Cummins' proposed contract is also expected to include more guaranteed money, regardless of how many matches, series or tournaments he plays. By the time his contract expires in 2029, the Westmead-born man will be 36 years old.

Cummins missed the first seven matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the T20 World Cup and IPL 2026 as he recovers from a back injury. However, since his return, the 32-year-old has shown no signs of rust.

While he only needed the bat in his hand once, he bowled brilliantly with the ball and also led the Orange Army from the front. He has taken four wickets in four matches. His economy rate of 9.19 is impressive for any player bowling in the power play.

On Wednesday, May 6, the 32-year-old helped Sunrisers defeat Punjab Kings by dismissing Priyansh Arya and Suryansh Shedge at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He won the Player of the Match award after taking two important wickets and leading his team well in a high-scoring contest, scoring a total of 437 runs in both innings.
