Ramakrishna Ghosh out due to injury, CSK confirms

Five-time IPL champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered another setback in their injury-hit IPL 2026 campaign, with all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh ruled out of the rest of the season due to a fracture in his right foot.

The franchise confirmed the development through its official social media handle, stating that the 28-year-old suffered the injury during CSK's recent home clash against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, May 2, the game which was also his IPL debut.

Although the exact moment of the injury has not yet been identified, Ghosh was involved in a sharp fielding effort early in the match, completing a diving catch to dismiss Will Jacks. He looked to lose balance during the follow-through after giving his first ball to Naman Dheer, which could have caused problems.

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming had hinted at injury concerns during the post-match press conference. He praised Ghosh's recent progress, highlighting his strong performances in training sessions and his growing ability with the bat.

“He has been improving steadily over the last few weeks and looked very impressive during our academy sessions. It is unfortunate that he got injured. He has also worked hard on his batting, which has become his real strength. He can truly be considered an all-rounder,” Fleming said.

Ghosh's absence has added to CSK's growing injury problem this season. The five-time champions have already been without key players like Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mhatre in recent weeks. Ahead of the season, Nathan Ellis was ruled out, while his replacement Spencer Johnson also suffered an injury-related delay.

To add to their troubles, CSK are without their charismatic personality MS Dhoni, who continues to recover from a calf injury. While the franchise has included Aakash Madhwal as Mhatre's replacement, they have not yet announced a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed. An official update regarding Ghosh's replacement is expected in the coming days.
