Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has been greatly influenced by this. KL Rahul's mindset and approach, especially his aggressive intent against Ravi Bishnoi during Delhi Capitals' win over Rajasthan Royals on May 1.
Rahul, who had struggled against Bishnoi in the IPL before this match scoring just eight runs off 12 balls, turned the tables in style. Chasing a challenging target of 226, he outclassed his former Lucknow Super Giants teammate, scoring 26 runs off just nine balls, which included two fours and two sixes.
“He [Rahul] Always playing. He can face any bowler at any time; It's just his mentality. Today we saw a very, very good approach to his batting. He hit some shots against Bishnoi because he was sure that Bishnoi had pace, and he could stand at the crease and still hit shots,” Rayudu said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
“That shot was still not on, there was a bit of a good length or short-of-length ball, which he hit straight for a six. It shows that the wicket was good, and also KL was confident in his batting and there has been a change in the way he usually bats. These are balls he doesn't normally take and it's a good sign that he is taking these lengths and balls against spin. That's why we compare him to some other seasons. I see him playing at such a high strike-rate in this tournament.”
Rahul scored 75 runs in 40 balls at an average of 187.50. He is currently the leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 433 runs in nine innings, which includes three fifties and a century. His strike rate in the current season was 185.83, which is the best in his IPL career.
After the match, Rahul said, “Strike rate was a big topic of discussion for a few years. It is something that I have really worked on. I am happy that I have worked on it and I am doing what is required for the team, number one, and doing what is required for modern T20 cricket. And yes, it is something that is enjoyable for me.”
