Former West Indies cricketer ian bishop Mitchell Starc was impressed with the firepower he brought in his first appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after recovering from shoulder and elbow problems.
Starc, who joined Delhi Capitals (DC) just over a month into the tournament, made an immediate impact and took 3 for 40 in his four-over spell against Rajasthan Royals, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja.
“I had a question in mind: what kind of form he would come into after that long break. But he has brought some aggression with him. That was pleasing. A few runs were scored in the last over, otherwise the figures would have been much better,” Bishop was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Jaiswal hit Starc for a six on the very first ball of the match, but he immediately responded and dismissed the batsman with a high full toss just two balls later. He later returned to bowl the 17th over, where he dismissed Jadeja for 20 and two balls later dismissed Parag for 90.
“From DC's perspective I'm happy with it. They needed it. With Lungi.” [Ngidi] and stark playing together [in future matches]This will be a good thing with two foreign batsmen and two foreign seam bowlers. “I'm excited to see what Mitch has brought to the table,” Bishop said.
On the other hand, Ambati Rayudu was impressed not only with Starc's bowling but also his attitude on the field. He highlighted a moment at backward point at the start of the 16th over, where Starc made a diving attempt to save some runs.
“More than his bowling, there was a moment in the game that showed me he was really ready. He had a diving stop at one point, which shows that his body is good and he is feeling good about himself and he is up for the challenge. And we also saw him speaking in the crowd. The way he was speaking was quite lively. He is in it and it is good for such a big cricketer to really be in the game. He wants to prove a point,” Rayudu said.
