Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag He has urged the selectors to consider the veteran fast bowler's national comeback after his stellar performance in the ongoing IPL 2026.
Bhuvneshwar performed brilliantly for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Gujarat Titans on 30 April, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs. In the process, he achieved a significant feat, becoming the first Indian fast bowler to reach 350 T20 wickets. The veteran also reached the top of the Purple Cap standings, taking his tally to 17 wickets in nine matches, including five three-wicket hauls this season.
Despite being out of the Indian team in 2022, Bhuvneshwar has quietly rebuilt his reputation through consistent IPL performances. He played a key role in RCB's title-winning campaign in 2025 and has continued that form into the current season, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 7.54 in the high-scoring tournament.
Speaking after Bhuvneshwar's impressive spell against Gujarat, Sehwag lauded the fast bowler's consistency and adaptability, and called him vintage Bhuvi.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar seems to be the best bowler in this case. He has taken 2-3 dismissals in the match, even today he has taken 3 dismissals and made the match for RCB. Sometimes I wonder what is his age? If he is 35-36 years old, what if he is performing big, then he should think about his comeback in the T20 format or the selectors should think about this. A combination of Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar Used to be, can they make that combination.” Again? He bowls well with both the new and old balls,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
The former India batsman also highlighted how Bhubaneswar Has continued to perform well against top opponents, proving his relevance in modern T20 cricket.
He said, “I enjoyed watching Bhuvneshwar Kumar play today. I can see the sharpness in his game. He is playing against top batsmen. It is not that he is playing well against one or two good teams; he is playing against all the strong teams. I enjoyed watching him play, you can call Bhuvneshwar Kumar vintage. You never know.”
