Former Mitchell McClenaghan has praised the former captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore. Virat KohliHe was described as the most consistently performing player in the history of the Indian Premier League and praised his ability to evolve into different roles and eras.
Kohli became the first batsman in the history of the tournament to complete 9000 runs. He achieved this feat during the match against Delhi Capitals at his home ground Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Chasing an easy target of 76 runs, he scored unbeaten 23 runs in 15 balls at a strike rate of 153.33.
“Virat Kohli has been incredibly consistent. Getting 9000 IPL runs against the best bowlers in the world is no easy task. It's about hunger, discipline and adapting every year and that's what brings out the best in him,” McClenaghan said on JioHotstar.
McClenaghan highlighted Kohli's remarkable evolution in the IPL since his debut in 2008, noting how the right-handed batsman has successfully adapted to multiple roles over the years. He predicted another big achievement for the experienced player, saying that Kohli is on his way to reach 10,000 IPL runs.
McClenaghan said, “He did not start his career as an opening batsman. He batted in the lower middle order, fought for his place, then moved to number three. Later, he opened with Chris Gayle. That changed his game completely. He will reach 10,000 runs soon, there is no doubt about that. Kohli is the greatest batsman ever in the IPL, not just for the runs but how he has developed and have dominated in different eras.”
Kohli has scored 9,012 runs in 275 matches at an average of 40.05 and strike rate of 133.05, which includes eight centuries and 66 half-centuries. He is currently fourth in the race for the Orange Cap with 351 runs in eight innings at an average of 58.50 and an impressive strike rate of 162.50, which includes three fifties.
RCB registered its sixth win in eight matches, taking it to 12 points and second on the table. Opting to bowl first, RCB put in a strong performance as Josh Hazlewood took 4/12 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3/5, restricting the opposition to just 75 runs in 16.3 overs. Abhishek Porel was the top scorer with 30 runs. After this the defending champions completed the chase in just 6.3 overs.
