The crowd at some Indian Premier League (IPL) games is fun and joyous in its own unique way. This was the situation during match 33 Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium.
Before the game began, the cameras turned to a fan in the crowd who bore a striking resemblance to the former MI and Sri Lanka fast bowler. Lasith Malinga. The fan had much the same hairstyle and beard and was also seen wearing the same MI training jersey as the legendary right-arm pacer.
Malinga is considered one of the greatest foreign players to represent the Mumbai-based franchise in the history of the IPL. The former Sri Lankan captain played for MI in nine seasons of the IPL, where he played 122 matches, taking 170 wickets at an economy rate of just 7.14.
Malinga was part of four title-winning MI teams in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019 before retiring from the tournament. He is currently the bowling coach for the five-time champions, where he gets the chance to work with world-class fast bowlers including Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.
