Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, April 19 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The performance of Ajinkya Rahane and Company in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been very poor. The three-time champions have played six matches and lost five of them. One of their matches against Punjab Kings was washed out due to rain.
In their most recent game, Rahane's team showed plenty of fight against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, the Titans managed to chase down the target of 181 runs with five wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
The problem with the Knights is the poor performance of most of their batsmen. No one is able to perform well consistently for them. The seam-bowling attack is quite inexperienced and the absence of Harshit Rana is being felt. Sunil Narine has bowled brilliantly, but Varun Chakravarthy has not been able to perform at his best. Defeat on Sunday could almost end their hopes of reaching the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals have made a great start to their campaign. In five matches he has won four and lost one. In their most recent game, they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 57 runs, ending their four-match winning streak.
The inaugural champions won't be too bothered by that defeat, as in the volatile T20 format, defeats here and there are normal. However, the captain's form Riyan Parag Will be a matter of great concern. It is too early to say whether the pressure of captaincy is affecting him or not. He has performed well as the captain of Assam. However, leading an IPL franchise is a different game altogether, with a lot of eyes and expectations looming on you.
Sandeep Sharma and Tushar Deshpande have also been very expensive so far. The Royals management may consider bringing in Brijesh Sharma in place of one of the above mentioned fast bowlers. Brijesh has performed impressively in the two matches played so far. The right-arm fast bowler made a name for himself while playing at the Eden Gardens during the Bengal Pro T20 League last season.
