Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have brought Gerald Coetzee As a replacement for David Payne for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. Left-arm fast bowler Payne took part in two matches for the Hyderabad team this year and took two wickets. However, he has now been ruled out with an ankle injury, leaving the franchise looking for a replacement midway through the tournament.
Coetzee, a South African right-arm fast bowler, brings with him international experience. He has represented his country in four Tests, 14 One Day Internationals and 18 T20 Internationals, and has taken a total of 67 wickets across all formats. In the IPL, Coetzee has previously played 14 matches for Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI), where he took 15 wickets. SRH have secured his services for the remaining season for Rs 2 crore.
The franchise is also struggling with other injuries. England all-rounder Brydon Carse has been ruled out after suffering a hand injury during a net session before the start of the season. He did not feature in any of the games, leading to SRH signing Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement.
However, there is positive news for SRH as captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to rejoin the team. Cummins was ruled out following scans on his back in Sydney and is yet to play this season. He is expected to potentially make a comeback on April 25 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Jaipur.
SRH, currently placed fifth on the points table with two wins from five matches, will next face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Sunrisers Hyderabad started their IPL 2026 campaign with a loss to defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) but bounced back against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). They then suffered consecutive defeats to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) before recovering strongly with a win over RR.
