RR manager Romi Bhinder fined Rs 1 lakh for phone incident

Rajasthan Royals (RR) Manager Romi Bhinder has been cleared of any wrongdoing after he was spotted using a mobile phone while sitting in the team's dugout during Match 16 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Guwahati.

However, Bhinder has not been acquitted and he has been fined Rs 1 lakh by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“A fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on Rajasthan Royals Team Manager, Ravinder Singh Bhinder, for violating the BCCI IPL PMOA Protocol during Match 16 between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati on April 10, 2026. The violation pertains to the use of a mobile phone in the team dugout, which is a violation of Article 4.1.1 of the BCCI IPL PMOA Protocol. Acknowledging this Following the lapse, Mr Bhinder admitted the offense and tendered an unconditional apology,” the IPL official statement read.

Despite carrying a mobile phone around the team dugout, a controversial anti-corruption topic, Bhinder was found not guilty of any misconduct. Considering the longevity of Bhinder, who has served as RR's manager since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, the incident was viewed very leniently and was a first-time offence.

Bhinder also explained his medical emergency and provided documents related to his lung problems, which were also considered. However, he admitted the crime and apologized.

The statement further said, “Since this was his first violation under the prescribed protocol, a fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed as per Article 7.42 (a) of the BCCI IPL PMOA Protocol. He has also been warned to be more careful in future and strictly follow the established guidelines.”

RR star Vaibhav Suryavanshi was seen next to Bhinder, but he has not been included in any investigation.
