Rasikh Salaam Bowled the match-winning bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, 15 April. The right-arm fast bowler took four wickets and gave away just 24 runs in his four overs.
After the home team chased down the 147-run target with five wickets in hand and 4.5 overs to spare, wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma said that Rasikh has the skills which he has been showcasing for a long time, but now, he is learning how to use them. The former player credited the atmosphere at the RCB camp and the presence of respected coaches and mentors who have helped Rasikh bring out his A-game.
“He already had these skills that you are seeing, but what he has learned recently is how to use them. When you get a good mentor, a good coach and a good environment, you start understanding how to use the weapons you have. When to use them, where to use them and whether they are even needed,” Jitesh said in the post-match press conference.
“After that, you keep sharpening those arms. When he played with me for Baroda, he worked a lot on his yorkers and slower bowlers. Mistakes are bound to happen at that level, but if you practice so much that it becomes muscle memory, things start coming naturally in the match,” Jitesh said.
Apart from Rasikh, Bhuvneshwar bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets for 27 runs. Krunal Pandya also took two wickets. However, the Player of the Match award went to Josh Hazlewood, who took the big wicket of Nicholas Pooran and bowled with tremendous discipline inside the power play to put pressure on the LSG batsmen.
RCB lost the wicket of Phil Salt early in the run chase, but Virat Kohli played the role of anchor by scoring 49 runs in 34 balls. Rajat Patidar and Jitesh played stormy innings before Tim David and Romario Shepherd gave the team the win in the 16th over.
