former indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Rajat Patidar has been praised for his fearless batting approach and his ability to lead from the front in the ongoing Indian Premier League season. Patidar has played a vital role in setting the tone during the middle overs, adopting an aggressive mindset and playing aggressive shots from the start.
The right-handed batsman has scored 222 runs in five matches at an impressive strike rate of 213.46, which has provided a significant boost to RCB, especially at a stage where teams often go slow. His intent allowed Bengaluru to maintain the pace in the middle overs, putting the opposition bowlers under constant pressure. Rayudu also highlighted that Patidar's positive mindset is having an impact on the entire batting unit.
“They are going after every ball. The captain is doing that so the team is following that pace and that template. Whenever you see Patidar coming in, he comes in with a lot of intention. That is having an impact on their non-strikers as well as the batsmen coming behind them. It is refreshing to see RCB playing like that,” Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo.
Rayudu was particularly impressed by the approach of the RCB batsmen during the chase on a slow pitch and praised their intent and execution. He highlighted how the batsmen decided to attack even the good balls and consistently hit the boundary rather than waiting to take advantage of the loose balls.
“Playing on a slow wicket, they adapted better than the Lucknow batsmen. It was a slow wicket, they had to adjust their shots and the swing of their bat, but they played some great shots. Normally, we have seen a lot of sixes against loose balls, but this batting line-up is really hitting sixes against good balls. That is a good sign,” Rayudu said.
Talking about the match, RCB won the match by five wickets. LSG scored 146 runs in their 20 overs, where Mitchell Marsh top-scored with 40 runs. For RCB, Rasikh Salam Dar took 4 wickets for 24 runs. While chasing the target, RCB achieved it in 15.1 overs, with Virat Kohli top-scoring with 49 runs. For LSG, Prince Yadav took 3 wickets for 32 runs and with this win, the Bengaluru franchise reached the top of the points table.
