IPL 2026: 'Got to play like this no matter what' – Dewald Brewis praises 'special' Ayush Mhatre

Chennai Super Kings Batsman Dewald Brevis was happy after his long-awaited appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Brewis was part of the CSK XI against Delhi Capitals, but was not required to bat in the team's 23-run win at home. CSK made it consecutive wins by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 32 runs in Chennai on 14 April, having started the season with a hat-trick of defeats.

Brewis, who missed the first three games due to a side strain, admitted he enjoyed his stay on the park after recovering from injury: he scored 41 off 29 balls with four fours and two sixes, helping CSK reach 192 for 5 on the board before stopping the visitors at short notice.

“It was fun; I enjoyed it. It was great to be in front of the crowd here; it was very special. And yes, spending time getting to know the wicket. It was a little different than the other night, but yes, a lot of fun. Diving into the ground, getting a good swing at the bat and feeling it was absolutely fantastic. It felt like I had gained some confidence because getting out with a side strain was not good. But yes, I am feeling strong, and I am glad we got the win,” Brewis told JioHotstar.

Brewis also shared his thoughts on fellow prodigy Ayush MhatreThe 18-year-old was praised for his fearless batting style and aggressive intent. Mhatre played a quick inning of 38 runs in 17 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes against KKR.

“Mhatre is special, he's young, and he plays the way he plays. That's my wish for him: he stays true to himself, has fun and keeps playing like this, no matter what. You'll have ups and downs in your career, but it's great to see how he plays. He basically plays ball by ball, reacts and hits it where it matters.”

CSK, who are placed eighth in the points table after the win over KKR, will face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday, April 18.
